Report on Giving

January 2013

As a leading public law school, UBC Law at Allard Hall has a responsibility to offer extraordinary academic programs, to conduct ground-breaking and solution-oriented research, and to create a forum for public debate and discussion. Both public and private funds are necessary to build a vibrant centre focused on the future of the legal profession and the role of law in promoting a just, sustainable and prosperous society. The thoughtful generosity of our alumni helps support our continued success.

On September 27 we celebrated the first-year anniversary of Allard Hall. Supporters and friends of UBC Law along with students, faculty and staff congregated in the school's forum to reflect on the many accomplishments during our first year in Allard Hall. The building's many special features have allowed wonderful teaching, learning and research opportunities to happen in a facility that now matches the quality of its students. We will continue to ensure that we live up to the promise of this building.

Last fall, UBC launched the most significant fundraising and alumni engagement campaign in its or Canada's history. Before it is completed, an additional $1.5 billion dollars will be available to accomplish meaningful changes from and through UBC. UBC Law completed the first leg of the campaign by raising nearly $35 million for the new law school building. With the completion of the building campaign, we are working to secure investments in student scholarships, faculty positions, and programs and activities that will fulfill the promise of the inspiring facilities we now have for teaching, research and community outreach.

Your generosity allows UBC Law to advance legal research, to attract intellectually outstanding students without regard to their financial circumstances, and to ensure that UBC Law contributes to the profession and to communities across Canada and around the world. We are thankful for your continued support and commitment.
