Aboriginal StudentsIn addition scholarships and bursaries available to all entering and continuing students, there are additional awards specifically for aboriginal students. Students should be aware of the awards listed below, as well as the University-wide Aboriginal Awards. SCHOLARSHIPS BY APPLICATION Law Foundation First Nations Award Harvey Bell Memorial Prize - This prize was established in memory of the late Harvey Bell, Q.C. It provides one or more awards of up to $1,000 (at the discretion of the committee) to be paid each year to one or more students of Native Canadian ancestry receiving his or her LL.B. or J.D. degree in Canada. Mr. Bell practiced law in the City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, for many years. During his lifetime he took a keen interest in Native people and their communities. In a variety of ways he sought to assist them. More Details The students receiving the awards are to be selected by a committee of not more than five members made up of representatives from the Indigenous Bar Association, Bell representatives and a representative of the University of Saskatchewan Native Law Centre. Roger Carter Scholarship Awards - This Scholarship was established by the Native Law Students Association of Canada in 1981. It provides four awards of $250 each, to be paid each year to students of Native Canadian ancestry entering second or third year of law school in Canada. This Scholarship is awarded in honour of Roger Carter, Q.C., founder of the Program of Legal Studies for Native People in 1973 and the Native Law Centre in 1975. He was Director of the Centre until 1981. The students receiving the awards are to be selected by a committee of Trustees of the Scholarship Trust Fund, made up of four Aboriginal law graduates and a representative of the University of Saskatchewan Native Law Centre.
