Financial Assistance

The University recognizes the J.D. program is expensive and offers various financial assistance options.
To ensure fair and equitable access to funding, students are expected to utilize all resources available to them, in the following order:

  1. Savings and assets –personal resources including the value of investments and automobiles

  2. Student loans provided by federal and provincial government programs

  3. UBC General Bursaries & Work Study - you must hold a student loan to qualify for bursaries

  4. Lines of Credit are available specifically for Professional Students from Royal Bank and Scotiabank

Only Canadian citizens and permanent residents may access most forms of financial assistance.

Students on a study permit should review Financial Support for International Students.

Aboriginal students may benefit from specific awardsin addition to the standard UBC awards.  Aboriginal students may also qualify for financial assistance from the Department of Justice Canada, Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, or the student’s home band administration office.

Students with Disabilitiesmay be eligible for awards in addition to the standard UBC awards.
