17 Years and Under Category: 1st Prize: Kelly Lee – Dove
Dove
Broken wings that cannot glide
That cannot glide to freedom
Trying to reach in meaningful ways
Never noticed what is new,
Bits and pieces strike within it,
Crimson red rushes slowly,
Blood starts to drip sorrowfully,
Broken wings that try to glide
Never make it right on time
Over coming resting eyes, close your eyes for freedom
Dream of what is going to come,
Over coming of what is done,
Realizing of what they have done
There is no sound
There is no sound
No sound
18 Years and Older Category: 1st Prize: Alannah Johnston - Reach
Reach
A single voice dares to cry
The lament of thousands to the sky
A set of ears dares to hear
One culture's plight and deepest fear
A pair of feet begins the march
Kindred spirits follow, one singing lark
A single hand reaches out to pull
A legless standing and the hopeless home
