UBC Law Welcomes the Honourable Frank Iacobucci, C.C., Q.C.
The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, C.C., Q.C. On February 9th, Mr. Iacobucci will present a lecture at Allard Hall as part of the J. Donald Mawhinney lectureship in professional ethics. On Thursday February 9th, the Honourable Frank Iacobucci will speak to students on the topic: Parliament vs. Government: The Saga of Afghan Detainees. The lecture is part of the annual J. Donald Mawhinney lectureship in professional ethics. This year's lecture will take place in Allard Hall (1822 East Mall), Room 101 from 12:30-1:30pm. All are welcome to attend. UBC Law is also hosting a downtown lecture with the Mr. Iacobucci on February 8th at UBC Robson Square, Room C150. The one-hour lecture will begin at 6pm and is followed by a reception. About Mr. Iacobucci After private practice in New York, and an academic career at the University of Toronto which included various positions and time as a federal public servant, The Honourable Frank Iacobucci was appointed Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada. He then served the Supreme Court of Canada from 1991 to 2004. Subsequently he served as interim President of the University of Toronto until 2005, after which he joined Torys LLP as Counsel and currently serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario and is a member of the Board of Directors of Tim Hortons Inc. and of the Advisory Board of General Motors of Canada. Mr. Iacobucci has acted for the Federal Government and the Ontario Government on major matters involving alleged terrorists, aboriginal people, Afghan detainees, and other issues. In July 2007, Mr. Iacobucci was appointed a Companion in the Order of Canada and in 2009 received the Justice Medal for lifetime achievement from the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. About the Lectureship The J. Donald Mawhinney Lectureship in Professional Ethics was established in honor of J. Donald Mawhinney, Q.C., to recognize his outstanding contributions to British Columbia's legal community, his commitment to legal educations and his dedication to practicing with the very highest standard of professional ethics.
