February marked the beginning of the demolition phase of the UBC Law Building Project. The site of the old law building is now a construction zone with restricted access, and crews have begun the major demolition and excavation work. Visitors to the old building will note that amidst the rubble, the Law Library is still accessible through the south entrance. The library will remain open until the new building is completed.
Video footage of the demolition can be found on the Faculty’s You Tube page at www.youtube.com/UBCLaw1 . The faculty hopes to make available a time lapse video of construction of the new building on the web in the coming months. We will continue to update the website with photos of the construction process. The most recent video footage and photos were added on February 11, 2010.
On April 15, 2010 alumni, donors and friends of the law school will be invited to special celebration as the faculty begins laying the foundation for the new building. Alumni are invited to submit their memories of the building for use in both the foundation pouring in 2010 and the ribbon cutting ceremony in 2011. All submissions should be directed to communications@law.ubc.ca.
