THREE ALUMNI NAMED PROVINCIAL COURT JUDGES
Thomas Woods, Josiah Wood, QC and Elisabeth Burgess, QC have all been appointed to the bench of the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
Thomas Woods graduated from UBC Law in 1987 and was a partner at Lawson Lundell LLP, practicing in the area of civil litigation. He was also the editor of The Advocate, a bi-weekly legal journal, for the last eleven years. In 2006, he was awarded with the Law Alumni Association’s Award of Distinction.
Josiah Wood graduated from UBC Law in 1967 and left a successful criminal practice at Dowding, Deverell, Harrop & Wood LLP to serve as a justice with Supreme Court of BC in 1983 and the BC Court of Appeal from 1989 to 1996. He had been practicing with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP before his return to the bench.
Elisabeth Burgess graduated from UBC Law in 1982 and practiced with the Ministry of Attorney General for 23 years, eleven of those as a crown prosecutor prior to becoming the Director of Special Justice Programs, Aboriginal Justice and Environmental Prosecutions. She became the Director of Legal Operations and Justice Programs in 2001 and served as Executive Director of the Criminal Reform Office between 2004 and 2006.
