Mike HarcourtMike Harcourt receives honourary LL.D. degree

In a ceremony held on November 21st, UBC granted an honorary degree to law alumnus Mike Harcourt. Harcourt received his LL.B. from UBC in 1968 and served as the 30th British Columbia Premier from 1991 to 1996 and as the mayor of Vancouver from 1980 to 1986. His political, academic and personal work has focused on issues of conservation and sustainability. Mike Harcourt is a UBC graduate whose career sets the standard for both public service and personal triumph. After a devastating injury in 2002 left him partially paralyzed, he became a highly respected disability advocate. Harcourt’s contributions have been acknowledged through a range of high level honours, including the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service and the Canadian Urban Institute’s Jane Jacobs Lifetime Achievement Award.
