Paul Fraser, Q.C., has been appointed the Conflict Commissioner for British Columbia

Fraser, a UBC Law graduate from 1964, has practised law in B.C. for more than 40 years, specializing in civil and criminal litigation. Currently providing counsel to the firm Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, he is also president of the Canadian section of the International Commission of Jurists, a human rights organization of judges and lawyers founded after the adoption of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. The commissioner advises MLAs on avoiding conflicts of interest and determines whether they have put themselves in such a position. An all-party special committee was unanimous in the selection of Fraser for the post. 

Paul is the former president of both the Canadian Bar Association and the Commonwealth Lawyers' Association. He has also served as special legal advisor to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, as Industrial Inquiry Commissioner in the 1995 national rail dispute, and as a senior adjudicator in the Aboriginal Residential Schools ADR process.
