First Nations Student Support
The First Nations Legal Studies Program endeavors to ensure Aboriginal student success at the Faculty of Law. Accordingly, the Program provides academic, cultural and career support to Aboriginal students.
Academic assistance includes workshops, one-on-one tutoring and academic advising for Aboriginal students.
Cultural support consists of social gatherings and cultural workshops throughout the academic year. The First Nations Law Students Association is a student-led organization that works closely with the First Nations Legal Studies Program to coordinate the events.
In terms of career support, the First Nations Legal Studies Program works with the Career Services Office at the Faculty of Law to assist Aboriginal students in securing articling positions. The First Nations Legal Studies Program hosts articling receptions and invites alumni to social events during the academic year to connect prospective employers with Aboriginal law students.
The First Nations Legal Studies Program is also closely connected with the larger Aboriginal community at the University of British Columbia that finds its home at the First Nations House of Learning.
