The 16th Annual Interdisciplinary Legal Studies Graduate Students' Conference
MAY 13 & 14, 2011
Publication Announcement - Creative Law
We are delighted to announce the publication of Creative Law: Selected Papers from the University of British Columbia's 16th Annual Interdisciplinary Legal Studies Graduate Students' Conference. The book is available here [https://circle.ubc.ca/handle/2429/41159].
Many congratulations to the authors included!
Published as an initiative of the Graduate Law Students' Society, this exciting volume brings together some of the papers that were most appreciated at the conference, chosen by vote by participants. Included papers examine, among other things, the wearing of the niqab in Canadian courtrooms, the Downtown Eastside and The Wire's 'Hamsterdam', the phenomenon of self-published zines as sites of resistance, the development of legal education in light of the 'Dance Your Ph.D.' contest, and a Foucauldian 'Panoptic Board Game'!
This is just a taster - please take a look at the book and support this fantastic project.
Welcome graduate students!
For current graduate students who wish to present, our call for papers and registration form are now available under Quickfind at the top right of this page.
The theme for the 2011 conference is creativity and the law. For this 16th edition of the UBC Law Graduate Students' Conference we encourage you to think outside the box and show us your legal creativity. We want to know how creativity influences the law and how law can influences creativity. In other words: be creative!
Join us to:
- Present a paper
- Chair a panel
- Or just come to engage in interesting discussing with fellow students
We are happy to announce that this year the conference will be held at the Liu Institute for Global Issues situated on the UBC campus. Surrounded by nature and possessing all the adequate facilities, the Liu Institute is the perfect place to stimulate our creativity and to encourage discussion and camaraderie.
Update:
We thank all of the participants to the conference for making the event such a success! We have now uploaded pictures taken during the conference and invite you to submit yours to us if you wish to share them with the rest of the participants.
