LAW STUDENT'S SOCIETY

All undergraduate students enrolled in the faculty of law are members of the Law Students' Society (LSS). The LSS represents students on academic issues such as curriculum reform and faculty hiring; organizes social events such as the annual boat cruise and bar societies; and also facilitates and funds student sport teams and clubs.

The LSS consists of three bodies: the Executive, the Academic Issues Caucus (AIC) and the Student Affairs Caucus (SAC).

We encourage all students to get involved.

LAW STUDENTS' SOCIETY EXECUTIVE

The LSS Executive meets monthly and acts as the coordinating body between the Academic Issues Caucus and the Student Affairs Caucus. It is comprised of three members from each caucus and is chaired by the LSS President. The purpose of the executive is to ensure communication and to coordinate activities between the two bodies. The executive is also who the external administration contacts to communicate with the student government.

The members of the Executive are the President, the VP Student Affairs, the VP Academic, the Executive Director of Finance, the Senator, the Executive Director of AMS Relations and the Executive Director of Communications. The Ombudsperson, who is available to all students to go to with their concerns and problems, also sits on the Executive but is non-voting.

ACADEMIC ISSUES CAUCUS (AIC)

The AIC represents student's academic interests. The members are the student voice on faculty committees such as Curriculum, Tuition and Examinations. They also sit on the Faculty Council, and organize many student townhalls throughout the year to allow students to raise their concerns.

The AIC is comprised of the VP Academic (chair), the Senator, the Director of AMS Relations, four directors at large (second and third year students), and three first year representatives who are elected in September. The LSS President also sits on the AIC as a non-voting member.

STUDENT AFFAIRS CAUCUS (SAC)

The SAC works to improve the non-academic aspects of student life at the UBC Faculty of Law. They are responsible for hosting most of the social events including the weekly bar societies, running Candida's, and facilitating and funding sport teams and student clubs.

The SAC is comprised of the VP Student Affairs (chair), the Executive Director of Finance, the Director of LSS Services, the Director of Graduation Committee, and the Director of Sports, Clubs and Development. The LSS President also sits on the SAC as a non-voting member. Three first year representatives are elected in September.
