Asia Pacific Dispute Resolution Research |
This research project addresses the challenge of coordinating local compliance with international trade and human rights standards in the Asia-Pacific region. The project includes interview and archival research on trade and human rights dispute resolution in Canada, China, Indonesia, India and Japan, and includes local Case Studies selected and developed with Canadian policy needs in mind. The results of the research enables interdisciplinary scholars and policymakers in Canada and internationally to establish more effective mechanisms for ensuring coordinated compliance with international trade and human rights standards. |

Feminist Legal Studies/Centre for Feminist Legal Studies |
The Faculty of Law is nationally and internationally renowned for its scholarship and teaching in Feminist Legal Studies. The Centre for Feminist Legal Studies was established in 1997 and is currently housed in Rooms 424 and 422 of Allard Hall. The Centre's purpose is to enhance the visibility of feminist legal studies at UBC and to strengthen cooperation in research, teaching, and graduate student supervision between scholars working within the Faculty of Law and elsewhere at UBC, as well as links and collaborations between scholars working in different university and community settings in British Columbia, Canada, and internationally. |
Indigenous Legal Studies

The Faculty of Law is a leader in Indigenous legal education in North America. Since 1975, over 180 Aboriginal students have graduated from the Faculty of Law with a bachelor of laws degree. Many of those are now leaders who have helped to redefine Indigenous legal issues in Canada. |
UBC Law Innocence Project |
The Innocence Project at the UBC Faculty of Law reviews claims of wrongful conviction to find the truth. The mission of the Project is to investigate and identify cases of wrongful conviction and assist in securing the release of individuals who have been wrongly convicted. |

The Specialization in Law and Social Justice recognizes students who focus part of their legal studies on areas related to the use of law to achieve social justice. It also gives students who are interested in Law and Social Justice and public interest law guidance as to choice among courses in the upper year curriculum. The Centre offers outstanding educational programs in business law for J.D./LL.B., graduate and professional students, enhancing the quality of students' learning experience by increasing engagement with contemporary business law issues. South China Seas Informal Working Group |
Since 1990 a series of workshops on "Managing Potential Conflicts in the South China Sea" have been held in Indonesia under the auspices of the Research and Development Agency within the Department of Foreign Affairs. These non-governmental gatherings have been convened to explore ways to engender cooperation among the nations bordering on the South China Sea. |
