Class of 1966 Dinner Held at the Vancouver Tennis Club
On less than six weeks notice, our class held an informal reception and dinner at the Vancouver Tennis Club on November 30th, 2007, to celebrate our 41st anniversary. What precipitated this gathering was the sudden realization that we are not immortal. Of the 84 who graduated in our class, 14 have passed away including John Anton, Ivar Bruhaug, David Way, Peter Hyndman, and Jim Treleaven in the past three years.
A joyous time was held by all attendees including Mr. Justice Ed Chiasson – recently appointed to the Court of Appeal, Mr. Justices Buddy Wong and Selwyn Romilly, Rod Johnston - Powell River, Skooke Roberts and Bill MacDonald - Victoria, Howard Berge – Kelowna, John Dunphy – Calgary and the Vancouver contingent of Peter Bernard, Peter Bogardus, David Buchanan, Brooke Campbell, John Campbell, John Coleman, Ted Ewachniuk, Bob Guthrie, Doug Howard, Jack Huberman, Bill Randall, Rob Stevenson, and Dan Tutti who mostly took taxis home. Regrettably, Len Doust and Roger Webber – Kamloops had to cancel at the last minute.
Greetings of consequence were received from Mary Jo Nicholson (Anderson) –Toronto, Judge Cunliffe Barnett – on his way to Yellowknife, Ty Colgur – Trail, Gerry Deyell – Calgary, Bob Dick - Prince George, James Dillon - Warwick Queensland, John Ewert – Gabriola Island, Jon Fladgate – from the National Tennis Centre Melbourne, Linda Gorman – Calgary, Stuart Hartman – Courtenay, Murray Holmes – Victoria, Grant Hughes – New Westminster, Brian Legge – temporarily in Calgary, John Milligan – Ottawa, Bill McLaws – Vancouver, Kyle Mitchell – Vancouver, Greg Morley – Guatemala, John Motiuk – Gabriola Island, the Honourable Wally Oppal – with the Premier in India but left a message lamenting the fragility of health and the importance of friendship and camaraderie, Graham Phillips – Vancouver, Murray Sadler – Prince George, Barry Slutsky – from a rickshaw in Hong Kong, John Sutherland and Rick Lyle in Calgary, Arne von Dehn – Vancouver, Fred Wright – Vancouver, and Allen Zysblat from the University of Jerusalem.
Other messages were received from: Sarge Berner, David Black, Judge Derek Gillis, Philip Jones, Gary Lauk, Charles McKee, and Steve Tick – all from Vancouver. Finally, our condolences were extended to the seven class members who were temporarily in warmer climate including David Harris, and was he really riding his Harley in Rancho Mirage?
Further celebratory gatherings are being scheduled for June of each year and June, 2009, will represent a full-court press effort with former professors being invited.
